About Passwords

Your password is more than just a key to your online account.  If your password falls into the wrong hand, someone can easily impersonate you while online, sign your name to online service agreements or contracts, engage in transactions, or change your account information.

Your ID's and passwords are confidential information.  No one should ever ask you for your ID or password in an unsolicited phone call or email message.  Do not respond to any message that asks you for this information.

Do not write your passwords down.  If you must write it down, keep it locked away in a place only you can access.

Change your password periodically of if you suspect something is amiss.  Changing your password periodically ensures that if someone has inappropriately obtained it that you may avoid any possible fraudulent use of that account by changing it before they may have a chance to do harm to you and/or your private information.  Instructions for changing your password can be found with the assigned account area.

Don't use personal information that someone could easily figure out, such as your birthday, your child's name, your street address or your phone number.

Verify your account information. From time to time, make sure your information is accurate and that no one has altered your data. If at any time, you become concerned about the security of your password, you should change it immediately. If you suspect someone knows the answer to your secret question and any other information asked on the lost password form, contact the account security team as soon as possible.

Automatic Sign-In
If you check "Remember my ID on this computer" when you sign in to your account, you will still be signed in even after closing your browser. This will allow you to return without re-entering your password. (Note: If you're away from your computer for a while, you may be asked to re-enter your password.)

Do not check the "Remember my ID on this computer" box if:

bulletyou're concerned with other people seeing or gaining access to your account
bulletyou use a shared computer

It's easy to change your preferences. Simply sign out of your account, and then sign in again without checking the "Remember" box.

Before saving your password on any browser, plug-in, or program, thoroughly read the security documentation for that program or service. Depending on the program, your passwords may be made available to anyone who uses that computer.
